Black Butte Fuel Break
The Black Butte fuel break was designed to reduce fire danger on Michigan California Timber Company lands adjacent to the Union Pacific Right of Way. The project is located adjacent to the City of Weed and was designed in conjunction with CAL FIRE and MCTC to help protect residents and the forest in the event of a wildfire starting within the railroad corridor.
The 200ft wide fuel break treatment area covered about 34 acres. The project thinned trees to a spacing of 15-25 feet, and removed snags and brush.
Work was completed on this project in Fall 2020.
The 200ft wide fuel break creates defensible space and wildfire resiliency within the timber stand and for the community of Weed, CA.
